Wooden statues, candlesticks, candle holders, rattan mirrors, dried flowers, and small furniture are the stars of the new collection from Uma Cantik, one of the newest stores in the Campo de Ourique neighborhood... there are lamps, rattan lampshades (a natural fiber equivalent to wicker), baskets, and allang allang produced by Indonesian artisans; pieces made with shells; figurines in Timorese stone and wood; cushion covers; ceramic and wooden bowls; and shelves, towel racks, chairs, consoles, and benches. Lisbon: three stores with items to brighten up the home this Christmas season
Uma means "house" in Tetum (the Timorese language), and cantik means "beautiful" in Bahasa (the Indonesian language). But, more than this combination of languages, Uma Cantik was born from a sum of travels and experiences lived by Marta Vieira and Bram Vingerling in countries like Timor, Indonesia, and Mexico, where they faced work-related issues and, later, as a couple. After searching for cooperatives and local suppliers during the months they spent in Bali, "on a motorbike with backpacks on their backs," they decided to create the brand to bring the "warm and relaxed" lifestyle of those countries through interior decoration.

Minimalism Decor
A true journey to Bali and Timor. This is Uma Cantik, a minimalist decor store where the pieces are handpicked... and with love. The name lives up to the concept, as "Uma" means home in Tetum (Timorese language) and "Cantik" means beautiful in Bahasa Indonesian. But it is the collection of handmade pieces, made from natural materials, that wins us over at first sight.
CRISTINA Magazine #10, January 2020:
Uma Cantik is the name of the decoration store chosen by Margarida. "A great initiative by a young couple who love to travel," she explains. "As a lover of Balinese-style environments, I couldn't help but recommend this store, with pieces coming from Indonesia and Timor." The two-story space is located in Carnaxide, but the brand has an online store at www.umacantik.com.

"Everything is handmade, nothing industrial," Marta tells us. All the pieces they chose in Bali were made artisanally, with natural materials.
News Magazine #1429, 13 October 2019:
From the hands of natives to the World
Pieces of wood, seaweed, banana leaves, water hyacinth plants, and stone give rise to baskets, chairs, and lamps. Raw materials that seem less noble, but are the foundation of work and livelihood for artisans, and which, in fact, surprise when the final product is presented.
In this sense, from our wall decor pieces to stone statues, to kitchen items, the joy brought by each product from the Uma Cantik collection is the result of the happiness with which it was made. But not only that; it is also our constant concern throughout this process involved in trying to minimize the impact on the environment and our carbon footprint at all stages of production, transportation, and storage.
Natural and sustainable materials
In a very simple way: most of the products in our collection are made with natural materials, such as rattan, bamboo, teak wood, or sea grasses.
"In addition to the absence of impact on nature with their collection, these products are known for their resistance and versatility, as well as their natural ability to replenish. It is true that some products contain synthetics, but they are made from recycled materials."
"In addition, all items made of wood or with shells are certified by the government of Indonesia, and guaranteed to come from sustainable sources."
